Lens Choice

Choosing the right lenses for your frames can be overwhelming which is why we believe in taking an individual approach to you, your lifestyle and your vision needs. Whether you wear glasses everyday or for specific activities, our fully trained opticians can help you to make the right choice.

Technology has improved dramatically in recent years and there is now a wealth of amazing products on the market. You will find that lenses are now much thinner, flatter and optically superior. At John Fell Opticians we only sell the best branded lenses from Essilor, Zeiss and Shamir and many more to suit your convenience.

Single vision

Single vision refers to lenses that have one focal range only as they correct for a single viewing distance rather than for two or three different distances.

Varifocal lenses

Due to their ability to allow clear vision at any distance by positioning the head and eyes correctly, varifocal lenses (progressive power lenses) are often described as the closest thing to natural vision.

Bifocal lenses

Designed with two corrective lenses on each side of a pair of glasses, bifocal lenses are designed for people who need both near and farsighted vision correction.

Transitions lenses

Transition lenses protect your eyes by blocking 100% of UV rays all of the time. This latest photochromic lens technology reacts to varying light conditions and therefore provides darker and clearer lenses where appropriate.

Tints

From fashion to sport lenses, we have a full range of sunglasses tints available. Whether you are looking to compliment your style or get that competitive edge, we have everything you need to complete your style.

Crizal UV

Reduced glare when working at a computer, watching TV or driving at night. It physically repels dust and water, and protects your eyes against harmful UV light.

Single vision lenses

Single vision refers to lenses that have one focal range only as they correct for a single viewing distance rather than for two or three different distances. Available in either a plus or minus form, single vision lenses are generally made for either distance, intermediate or near use and can be spherical or aspheric in design.

With eyewear technology dramatically improving over recent years, there is now a wealth of superior products available on today’s market. At John Fell’s we supply a wide range of single vision lenses including ultra thin, thin, super thin, extra thin and standard lenses with Essilor, Zeiss or Shamir options.

Due to their ability to allow clear vision at any distance by positioning the head and eyes correctly, varifocal lenses (progressive power lenses) are often described as the closest thing to natural vision. Providing the wearer with three fields of vision – distance, intermediate and near, these lenses replace the need to have potentially three different pairs of spectacles.

Available in a hard and soft design, varifocals are highly recommended for people who require sharp vision at a variety of distances or who are new to glasses because new wearers find that they adapt to them very quickly.

At John Fell we stock a wide range of varifocal lenses including Essilor, Zeiss and Shamir with plenty of options. To help you get the most out of your lenses, we also offer a number of optional extras including:

Transition lenses protect your eyes by blocking 100% of UV rays all of the time. This latest photochromic lens technology reacts to varying light conditions and therefore provides darker and clearer lenses where appropriate. Transitions lenses perform as everyday clear lenses indoors. Outdoors, they do more, continuously filtering the light, reducing glare and eye fatigue. They adapt to changing light conditions, bringing out the best in everything you see. This type of lens is ideal for people with an active outdoor lifestyle or those with light sensitive eyes.

From fashion to sport lenses, we have a full range of sunglasses tints available. Whether you are looking to compliment your style or get that competitive edge, we have everything you need to complete your style.

As UV rays are harmful and can damage your eyes, a UV filter is highly recommended for all types of eyewear. At John Fell, all our sunwear lenses block out UV light in even the most extreme conditions so you can step outside with the utmost confidence.

Graduated tint

With only half or two thirds of the lens being tinted, graduated tint lenses offer a slightly more subtle look that can be used to emphasise the wearer’s eyes to their best advantage.

Polarised tint

Polarised tints have special glare-reducing features that standard or gradient non-polarized tints don't provide. If you find that your vision is hampered by glare from the sun bouncing off bright, light surfaces, then polarised lenses would be a great choice for you.
