Face Shape Guide

January 04, 2019 | By Joe Fell

Everyone has a particular face shape but the truth is almost nobody is a perfect heart, circle, square, round or any other narrowly defined shape. Most faces have a combination of a few different shapes, rounded chins, angular features and tapered jaws, and so on.

Trying to pick just image out of a line up can feel impossible. What you want is the shape that looks the most like yours, even if your chin is a little more pointed than the 'typical' oval, or your forehead a little wider than the 'usual' inverted triangle. These are all just guidelines to help you determine how to balance and complement your features, not unbreakable rules.

With so many glasses to choose from, knowing what works best can really help in bringing out your unique facial contours. If you have an oval, round, heart, triangle or square shaped face, this face shape guide will help in letting you know which glasses to focus on when shopping.

ROUND:

A round face has softer angles with slighter wider cheekbones and an equally wide forehead and jaw.

The perfect glasses:

Sharpen your softer features with rectangular frames. Choose frames that have bold, angular lines and ensure the bottom hits just above the cheekbones.

SQUARE:

A square face has more angular lines with equally wide cheekbones, forehead and jaw.

The perfect glasses:

Soften your angular features with rounder frames. Choose a thinner frame that won't overwhelm and ensure the width is slightly wider than your cheekbones.

TRIANGLE:

A triangle face is widest at the jaw and gradually narrows through to the forehead.

The perfect glasses:

Choose frames with detailing on the upper portion. Ensure the width is slightly wider than your jawline for balance. Browline or cat eye frames work great with your features.

HEART:

A heart face is widest at the forehead and gradually narrows through to the jaw.

The perfect pair:

A modified wayfarer shape works great with your features. Ensure the width is slightly wider than your forehead for balance. Choose frames with detailing on the lower portion.

OVAL:

An oval face is the most versatile to fit, with slightly wider cheekbones and gentle narrowing at the forehead and jaw.

The perfect fit:

Over sized frames work great with your features. Choose a bold shape that compliments your style. Standout by playing colour with texture.
